Be YOUR Most Beautiful on your Wedding Day!

“Makeup isn’t about changing yourself; but rather allowing your inner self to shine!”

To all brides to be! Your wedding day is going to be your most photographed day ever! So here are a few basic makeup tips I like to share with all my brides!

-Be true to yourself!! Don’t try a smokey eye for your wedding day if you’ve never worn something that dramatic. Another note – do what you want to do- not what mom wants 😉

-Have an open mind at your trial! This is your time to try out different looks/colors/textures until you find what works best for you! Just like any other aspect of your wedding planning, this is your time to find the perfect look! It took you time to find the perfect dress, you tasted several cake samples, looked at many venues, etc…, so think of your makeup trial the same way!

-Be open to trying something a little different! I know that sounds like the complete opposite of what I just said. But what I mean is, its ok try something a bit more dramatic- maybe a pop of color on your lips, or a little more highlight on your cheekbones. Just the right amount of drama without changing who you are.

-Please don’t tan. I know, you don’t want to look ‘pale’ but you don’t want to hear me preach to you about how bad any sunburn can be to your skins health and appearance in years to come. Instead, opt for a spray tan and I can make you look like a bronzed goddess with the right amount of makeup.

-Keep in mind that the makeup looks you see on pinterest or in magazines are a great starting point to get ideas, but don’t set your heart on one specific look. Chances are those pictures have been airbrushed, photoshoped, set in the perfect lighting, and models/celebs are trained to smile and pose professionally. You are going to be just as beautiful, but the makeup is not going to look EXACTLY the same.

-Take care of your skin! Believe me, no matter the amount of makeup or how much you spend on makeup, it is always going to look best on healthy skin!

Id love to be a part of your special day; whether you are looking for a makeup artist and/or esthetician…lets create the most memorable and beautiful YOU!

Be Beautiful on a Budget…

What if I told you that you can achieve gorgeous neutral eyeshadow looks without having to shell out a ton of money?  We all know that we can easily walk into Sephora or a makeup counter and purchase some amazing palettes, (that usually come with a hefty price tag), but a lot of ladies I talk to just don’t have the money (or want to) spend that much money!

So, what do you do if you want to achieve sultry neutral looks, but a bit more budget friendly!  You still deserve to look beautiful on any budget and here are some of my fave neutral shadow palettes worth checking out!

Physician’s Formula Nude Palette in Warm

nyx Dream Catcher Palette
MUA Undressed Palette

NYC Long Beach Sands

Wet N Wild Walking on Eggshells
ELF Natural eye palette

All of these palettes are under $20 and most are under $10…so there you have it…you can be beautiful on a budget! 😉

Be Beautiful at ANY Age!

Age defying makeup!

You can be beautiful at any age; but dont let your skincare and makeup routine hide your beauty! Take these steps at looking and feeling beautiful as you age!

ALWAYS take care of your skin! Exfoliate, moisturize, use retinols and SPF!

-Prime and apply a nourishing oil like Argon or jojoba oil before you apply your makeup.  You want to plump up your skin and add more hydration before you apply any makeup.

-Trade in heavy foundations for lighter formulas

-Go for creamier textures – they wont settle into your fine lines and wrinkles. They work beautifully with your skin for a more youthful glow.

-Skip the powder- over doing the powder its going to accentuate your fine lines and wrinkles

-Use blush and bronzer without shimmers to add color and warmth to your skin

-Highlight your cheekbones and browbones for an instant “facelift”

-Shape your eyebrows naturally– if your eyebrows are sparse and light- get your eyebrows tinted with a semi permanent tint (usually lasts 4-6 weeks if done by a pro). Or use a natural looking powder or pencil to fill in on a daily basis.

-Keep your eye makeup soft with neutral pops of color. That doesnt mean you can only wear brown shadow, but keep it neutral and warmer, rather than trendy and bright.

-Dont just line the bottom on your eye (this is going to make your eyes look tired and small)

-Curl your lashes and apply a volumizing mascara

-Dont go too light or too dark with your lipstick. Too light will wash you out and make you look tired and too dark will age you even more.

Take notes from these gorgeous celebs makeup!

(one thing they all have in common? I’ll bet you they take care of their skin!!)

Save time and money, look your best and have flawless long lasting makeup by properly prepping your skin!! Here’s how…

-Prep your skin with a the right moisturizer and/or serum or oil. Apply a primer to help smooth out fine lines, and make your makeup look smooth and flawless for long lasting coverage

-Prep your eyes with a primer- helps keep shadow in place, crease less, and the pigments to be more vibrant. (you’ll end up using less product too!)

-Prep your lips with a gentle lip scrub and apply a bit of lip butter/oil. You can then wipe off right before you put lip color or additional gloss on for the smoothest lips ever! This is very important if you apply lipstick- nothing worse than dry cracked lip color!

Refresh your Skin for Spring!

I cant say this enough…. your makeup is ALWAYS going to look better WHEN your skin is healthy! Let me repeat that… your makeup is ALWAYS going to look better WHEN your skin is healthy!

For some reason, people still dont understand the importance of proper skincare.  They seem to think that spending endless amounts on expensive makeup will help make their skin look better. But the truth is, no matter how much you spend on makeup, your makeup will always look better when your skin is healthy! (ok, I said it 3 times!)

Now that I got that off my chest; here are some of my basic skin refresher tips!

Its never too late to start taking care your skin and what a better time than now! The cold winter months can take a huge toll on your skin; so now is a great time to get refreshed skin for Spring!

1.  GO FOR PRO HELP!  This is a great time to ask as many questions you have about your skin, get set up on a at home skin care routine! Facials also help stimulate your skin and keep it in tip top shape so your skin care products are more effective and your beauty products go on much more smooth!  There are so many amazing low-cost, effective treatments available these days.  Come see me at Comprehensive Dermatology Skincare Salon if you would like to find out what in office skincare treatments would be best for you!

When it comes to caring for your skin, you want to create a routine you can stick to. Once you simplify your daily skin care routine, keeping up with exfoliating and using special treatments should be much easier to keep track of!

(an example of my products- some I use daily, while others I use a few times a week)

How many times have you been suckered into buying skin care products that promise the world and then you are left with nothing but an empty wallet! Resolve to do some research on skin care products before you go nuts investing money on fad products.  Stop listening to what everyone else is using- find products that are best for YOU!

(avoid product OVERLOAD!)
In addition to only buying quality skin care products, committing to only buying skin care products that you need. (no need for 5 different cleansers!)

As basic as it may sound- it is the most important step to never skip!! I recommend cleansing morning and night with the right cleanser for your skin.
Another skin care resolution is to keep is to keep your hands away from your face. There’s nothing worse than meticulously caring for your facial skin only to contaminate it with dirty hands!  This also goes for NOT picking or popping your pimples!
Make it habit to moisturize regularly at key times like right after you get out the shower while you skin is still damp. Dont forget to moisturize before you head to bed.
Take off those dull dry layers of skin with proper exfoliation;  many options to choose from- manual, chemical and scrubs all do  great job at promoting a healthy looking glow!
We’ve all heard about the importance of sunscreen in our skin care routine a million times but most are not always consistent with it. Stick to a daily SPF 30 every morning.
Stop the sunbathing already! There is MORE than enough info out there at how damaging the sun and tanning beds are for your skins health and appearance.  Go ahead and enjoy the fresh air and be active outside; but dont make tanning a new sport!

Reinvent your Makeup for Spring!

Spring and “springtime” refer to the season, and also to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth. We sure have endured a long and dreary winter; so its time to get happy with your Spring makeup looks!! According to Pantone, the Fashion Color Report Spring 2014 is “inspired by a mixture of blooming flowers, travels abroad and strong, confident women.”

So how does that translate to your makeup?  Get inspired by beautiful colors that the Spring season gives us! Think pretty floral shades, rich greenery, bright sunshine, beachy tones; with a confident feminine touch!

The first thing you need to do is get your skin Spring ready!  Take off those dull dry layers of skin with proper exfoliation; lighten up your moisturizers; and add some serums for cell turnover.

The easiest way to update your Spring look is with your lip color.  If you want to try bolder bright colors; go for tangerines, orchid, bright pink and fuscia.  Or you can go for more natural shades of these hues with sheer glosses.

Second, lighten up your  face by skipping heavy powders and over the top countouring.  Concentrate on a more clean canvas with lighter foundations, beautifully highlighted skin and adding some warmth and color with beautiful blush and bronzed skin.
If you want to take your look a step further; go for the eyes! So many options you can do! Try replacing your black liner with fun bold liners; teal, purple, blue, etc… OR go for a lightened smokey eye with softer tones to replace the darker tones.
Full, lush eyebrows are still in!  The proper shape of a brow can change the whole look of a face. It can make you appear tired if it’s not the right shape, or very rested and lifted and can show off the features if you get the right shape to the brow. Defining the brow is very important—it sets the tone for the rest of the face.

I also recommend using cream products. Most cream products nowadays are meant to be long-wearing—they’re not like the cream products of the past. They do the “no-makeup” look so well because they’re easy to blend—it looks like it’s coming from within the skin. They create  fresh-looking skin—rather than heavily covered, matte skin—is especially ideal for creating statement looks with the eyes and lips.

The important thing to remember is that there are different shades of every color, there are different shades of orange—there are different shades of black even— go for the shade that looks best on YOU! Take a color such as Radiant Orchid- you can either sheer it down or keep it intense depending on your skin tone and preference..

Every makeup brand comes out with seasonal collections- so if you want to take the guess work out of choosing what new colors to buy; go check out what is new this season!
What trends and colors are you excited to try?  Send me your very own makeup looks so I can add them to my post! 😉

Stopping the Vicious Cycle of Acne!

If you suffer from acne – you know how it can negatively affect your life. I personally know how much of a battle dealing with acne (inside and outward) can be.  And unfortunately, acne has NO age limit! You may never experience a breakout until you are an adult.

  • Acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States, affecting 40 million to 50 million Americans.
  • Nearly 85 percent of all people have acne at some point in their lives, most often on the face, chest, and back.

You think you’re doing something wrong- you try every product that you think is going to work, you try “scrubbing” it away, you stress out, and it becomes a vicious cycle! Believe me…I know exactly how that feels!!

But chances are, you aren’t doing anything to cause your acne! Your hormones could be the main cause to your acne.

There are naturally occurring changes in body chemistry as we age. These changes can affect hormonal release from glands, thus disturbing their balance.

These imbalances can manifest themselves in a wide variety of physical and emotional symptoms. The main hormones that affect the skin include estrogens, testosterone and thyroid hormones.

However, it is just as important to use the right products and treatments for your skin- so contact me if you would like to get on the right regimen towards your best skin!

So what can you do? First of all, talk w/ your doctor and make sure there aren’t any underlying problems.

But you can take charge of your skin with these tips…

-Look for products with alpha hydroxy acids, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredients.
-Corrective products containing:
-Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid, azelaic acid, licorice extract spot treatments, Pure retinol, kojic acid, lactic acid, licorice root extract
– Use light hydrating products with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients

Along with in-office treatments designed to increase cell turnover and decrease bacteria and oil production…
-Modified and enhanced Jessner’s formulas
-Salicylic acid treatments blended with anti-inflammatory ingredients
-Deep pore cleansing treatments
-Treatments designed to enhance circulation

You CAN stop the vicious acne cycle and it may be some trial and error and remember you can always contact me if you have any more questions!
