Are you Tired of looking Tired?

Are you tired of looking TIRED? Feel like when you look in the mirror and your skin lacks that luster it used to have?

Well, you are not alone! This is completely normal, but, that doesn’t mean you cant do anything about it!!

First, what could be causing your skin to look dull:

-As we grow older, our cells become weaker and signs of damage are more noticeable, we are also constantly exposed to the UV rays of the sun, so our skin starts to appear dry and dull. This is the result of the outside layer of the skin getting excessive build up and is not exfoliated on a regular basis.  Your skincare products aren’t working as well as they should because they aren’t getting anywhere past all of those dead skin  cells laying on the surface.  Then when you try to put makeup on, you are making the problem even worse because the makeup is emphasizing every nook and cranny!

Here are the main factors causing your skin to loose its natural glow…

-Stress – exhaustion, lack of sleep
-Sun Damage
-Build up of Dead Skin cells (our skin cells don’t naturally exfoliate as fast as they used to)
-Poor nutrition
-Glycation- When proteins in our skin, mainly collagen, become glycated, skin becomes very vulnerable to the attack of aging free radicals. This naturally occurring phenomenon increases as we age. Glycation is a process that occurs throughout our bodies, including in skin tissues, when a sugar molecule bonds with a protein molecule. When this happens, the protein becomes a “glycated protein,” and it becomes weak, brittle or even fractured, making it extremely vulnerable to a free-radical attack.

BEST things to do about tired or dull skin:
1. Proper daily skincare regimen with:
-Energizing ingredients to bring new energy and radiance to the skin.
-Exfoliants (glycolic acid, salicylic acid) to do clear away dead skin cells.

2. Environmental protection from the outside

3. Proper diet and good nutrition, supplement may be needed for protection from the inside.

4. Drink plenty of water.

5. Sleep and stress management.  Skin that is dull and lifeless needs to be emotionally treated as well as physically.  Find out what is causing the biggest stress in your life and manage how you deal with stress; whether it be with meditation, therapy, prayer, or hobbies!

6. Exercise

Teens: There IS help for your acne!

Acne is the most common skin disease.
People of all races and ages get acne.
But it is most common in teenagers and young adults.

An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point.  Acne can be found on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders because these areas have the largest number of oil glands.

I personally know how difficult and frustrating it can be to find the best products and treatments to help clear up acne. Here is some basic information to set you on the right path towards clearing up your acne.

How Salicylic Acid Peels Can help your acne…

Chemical peels don’t really peel the skin, despite what the name implies. They rapidly exfoliate the skin, allowing dead skin cells to shed more effectively. By keeping dead skin cells and excess oil from clogging the hair follicle, pore blockages (comedones) and pimples can be drastically reduced.  While you will notice immediate improvement after your first peel, it is highly recommended to receive a series of the peels to get the most benefits and continue healing your skin.

  • Acne occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Hormones, bacteria, certain medications and heredity can be contributing factors. Teenage girls are more likely to have acne outbreaks two to seven days before their menstrual cycles. Cosmetics or other substances applied to the skin can contribute to acne. Pressure on the skin, such as cell phones, helmets and backpacks, may also be contributors.

What acne fighting ingredients to look for:

Benzoyl Peroxide-This super popular ingredient is a bacteria killer. It can come in many different strengths- start out with a lower concentration to see how your skin responds. It can be drying, so make sure you follow with an oil free moisturizer.

Salicylic Acid- This is a form of beta hydroxy acid (BHA), and is commonly used as an acne treatment because it helps your skin shed dead cells and penetrate your oil glands.

Sulfur- Like benzoyl peroxide, sulfur can kill bacteria, but because it’s often very thick and slightly tinted, it’s best worn as a spot treatment.

Tea Tree Oil- This has anti-bacterial properties, but unlike a chemical, it’s not as fast-acting. So if you’re looking for quick results, this may not be your first pick. It is, however, a great alternative if you prefer natural products.

Kojic Acid-While this may not necessarily be a breakout fighter, it should be your go-to for fading dark marks and spots that are left behind after a breakout has gone away.

Teen Acne Tips

  • Don’t Overwash or Overscrub Your Face
  • Do Go Oil-Free When You Wash
  • Do Use an Oil-Free Foundation
  • Don’t Sunbathe or Tan
  • Do Use Oil-Free Sunscreen
  • Don’t Touch Your Face
  • Do Use Oil-Free Moisturizer
  • Don’t Pop  or Squeeze Your Pimples
  • Do Use Acne Medicine as Directed and Look Into All Acne Treatments

Don’t just live with acne, blackheads, and blemishes. If your current treatments don’t seem to be working, see your doctor or dermatologist to discuss other treatments. There are many types of medicines to help clear your skin. Some are available with a doctor’s prescription.

It may take a few tries to find the right treatment that is most effective for your skin. This can be frustrating, but try not to let it discourage you. Just remember that each medication you try will ultimately bring you closer to clear skin.

Also, don’t get disappointed if you’re still noticing new breakouts forming even after you’ve begun treatment. Pimples won’t immediately stop appearing and your acne may get a little bit worse before the medicine starts to take full effect. What you’ll most likely find is that over time your breakouts will become smaller, less red, and will heal more quickly. It is a gradual process, not overnight clearing. Although it doesn’t seem fair, some acne treatments actually make breakouts worse before getting better.

Above all else, be patient! No matter what product or medication you use, it takes time to work. You won’t get clear skin overnight, but with consistent treatment and a little time, you will get the results you’re looking for.

Where are my Cheekbones?

We all have them, some may have bigger ones, while others need a little help highlighting them! What am I talking about?

Cheekbones, of course!

Eyes may be the window to your soul and lips do all the talking, but don’t forget the power of chiseled cheekbones!!

Here’s how you can find yours and how you can show them off!

1. Smile

2. Place your index finger at the center of the apple of your cheek.
3. Place your thumb at the top of your ear where it connects to your head.
4. Now take your thumb and bring it toward your index finger.

That bone you feel is your cheekbone!!

5. Next, apply your blush directly onto the cheekbone. Avoid too much color directly on the apple. Rather sweep up and away.

6. Go a step further and apply your highlight directly above your blush

7.  And then your bronzer/contour directly below your blush.

8.  BLEND BLEND BLEND in for a flawless look!

9. SMILE some more because you found your cheekbones!!

Chisel your cheekbones for a natural look or go more daring with a more defined look! Here are some beautiful examples to follow…

Be YOUR Most Beautiful on your Wedding Day!

“Makeup isn’t about changing yourself; but rather allowing your inner self to shine!”

To all brides to be! Your wedding day is going to be your most photographed day ever! So here are a few basic makeup tips I like to share with all my brides!

-Be true to yourself!! Don’t try a smokey eye for your wedding day if you’ve never worn something that dramatic. Another note – do what you want to do- not what mom wants 😉

View More:

-Have an open mind at your trial! This is your time to try out different looks/colors/textures until you find what works best for you! Just like any other aspect of your wedding planning, this is your time to find the perfect look! It took you time to find the perfect dress, you tasted several cake samples, looked at many venues, etc…, so think of your makeup trial the same way!

-Be open to trying something a little different! I know that sounds like the complete opposite of what I just said. But what I mean is, its ok try something a bit more dramatic- maybe a pop of color on your lips, or a little more highlight on your cheekbones. Just the right amount of drama without changing who you are.

-Please don’t tan. I know, you don’t want to look ‘pale’ but you don’t want to hear me preach to you about how bad any sunburn can be to your skins health and appearance in years to come. Instead, opt for a spray tan and I can make you look like a bronzed goddess with the right amount of makeup.

-Keep in mind that the makeup looks you see on pinterest or in magazines are a great starting point to get ideas, but don’t set your heart on one specific look. Chances are those pictures have been airbrushed, photoshoped, set in the perfect lighting, and models/celebs are trained to smile and pose professionally. You are going to be just as beautiful, but the makeup is not going to look EXACTLY the same.

-Take care of your skin! Believe me, no matter the amount of makeup or how much you spend on makeup, it is always going to look best on healthy skin!

Id love to be a part of your special day; whether you are looking for a makeup artist and/or esthetician…lets create the most memorable and beautiful YOU!

Be Beautiful at ANY Age!

Age defying makeup!

You can be beautiful at any age; but dont let your skincare and makeup routine hide your beauty! Take these steps at looking and feeling beautiful as you age!

ALWAYS take care of your skin! Exfoliate, moisturize, use retinols and SPF!

-Prime and apply a nourishing oil like Argon or jojoba oil before you apply your makeup.  You want to plump up your skin and add more hydration before you apply any makeup.

-Trade in heavy foundations for lighter formulas

-Go for creamier textures – they wont settle into your fine lines and wrinkles. They work beautifully with your skin for a more youthful glow.

-Skip the powder- over doing the powder its going to accentuate your fine lines and wrinkles

-Use blush and bronzer without shimmers to add color and warmth to your skin

-Highlight your cheekbones and browbones for an instant “facelift”

-Shape your eyebrows naturally– if your eyebrows are sparse and light- get your eyebrows tinted with a semi permanent tint (usually lasts 4-6 weeks if done by a pro). Or use a natural looking powder or pencil to fill in on a daily basis.

-Keep your eye makeup soft with neutral pops of color. That doesnt mean you can only wear brown shadow, but keep it neutral and warmer, rather than trendy and bright.

-Dont just line the bottom on your eye (this is going to make your eyes look tired and small)

-Curl your lashes and apply a volumizing mascara

-Dont go too light or too dark with your lipstick. Too light will wash you out and make you look tired and too dark will age you even more.

Take notes from these gorgeous celebs makeup!

(one thing they all have in common? I’ll bet you they take care of their skin!!)

Save time and money, look your best and have flawless long lasting makeup by properly prepping your skin!! Here’s how…

-Prep your skin with a the right moisturizer and/or serum or oil. Apply a primer to help smooth out fine lines, and make your makeup look smooth and flawless for long lasting coverage

-Prep your eyes with a primer- helps keep shadow in place, crease less, and the pigments to be more vibrant. (you’ll end up using less product too!)

-Prep your lips with a gentle lip scrub and apply a bit of lip butter/oil. You can then wipe off right before you put lip color or additional gloss on for the smoothest lips ever! This is very important if you apply lipstick- nothing worse than dry cracked lip color!
